Bullseye Burger

April 25, 2012 by Chris Leave a Comment

During my struggles to learn how to cook, I realized that I have been neglected one important cooking method… The Grill.

I’ve always left the grilling to those with more experience, so up until now I’ve probably accumulated about 10 man hours of experience with this grill contraption. I’ve (fortunately) gained enough experience to feel comfortable that I won’t cause an explosion when I click the ignite button… as for the actual cooking, my comfort level with the grill is non-existant.

This is the year of change, and it all starts with a burger and some onions.

Bullseye Burger

When it comes to burgers, I’ve been following the simple steps outlined at The Grilling Companion and it hasn’t let me down yet… although I apparently still have to figure out the timing of my grill.

For those of you that don’t feel like clicking through to their wonderful site:

  • Lightly season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder
  • Don’t overwork the meat
  • Flip when sweating
  • Cook until 160ºF

Throw these burgers on a decent roll (Freihofer’s outlet is awesome), add some extras (lettuce, tomato, BBQ sauce), and you’re good to go.

What kind of tips do you have for someone starting to learn the grill?

Bullseye Burger

Simple grilled burgers with grilled onions and cheese on a perfectly toasted bun. Quick and simple!

Ingredients

1 lb Ground Beef
1 sweet Onion
Salt
Pepper
4 slices Swiss Cheese
4 rolls

Instructions

Preheat the grill to high.
Divide the meat into equal portions and flatten to about 1/2 inch. Don't overwork the meat
Slice the onion into 1/4 inch sections.
Season the burger with whatever you want then press the onion into the burger patty.
Grill over the hottest section, onion side up, for about 5-6 minutes. Flip, then continue grilling for about 4 more minutes. Add the cheese and let it melt.
Remove from grill and let it sit for 5 minutes or so while you toast the buns.
