Sloppy Joes… chili on a bun. I never ate these during my childhood, but I will most definitely be making up for my missed time by devouring these in massive quantities over the next 40 years of my life.
I may have finally turned a corner. I had an unnatural hatred for peppers and onions for as long as I can remember. Over the last few years I have grown to accept their existence if they happened to make it into one of my meals.
Nowadays, I might go as far as saying that I actually enjoy having them play a part in a dish. Having said that, you won’t find me voluntarily adding them to a salad anytime soon… I still can’t stand the taste of raw peppers.
I browned the turkey with the onions and then add the peppers, garlic, and some of the seasonings. I cooked that for a bit and then added the tomato goods, gave it a good mixing, and then simmered that until it reached my desired sloppiness.
For a while I thought it wasn’t going to thicken up any, but after a good 5 to 10 minutes it started to take the shape of the sloppy joe I knew.
Buns toasted, sloppy joe added, eat.
Freihofer’s outlet wins again with their rolls… so cheap! I also bought bread for some reason, which means I have to eat sandwiches for the next week or so. I also bought those midget cookies because a box was only $1… damn sales ruining my “diet”.
On a side note, Paula Deen might have diabetes?! Who would have guessed?
Looking for a meal that is impossible to eat without making a mess? Look no further… the turkey sloppy joe, complete with massive amounts of healthy additions.
